Gathering for the transmission of the General Chapter

G eventSunday, 01 September 2024

The dates from August 11 to 14, 2024, were of great significance for our Rwanda-Chad Province. We had the joy of gathering as Sisters of the Province and with some lay people who participated part-time, to discuss the life of our Province — yesterday, today, and tomorrow — in the light of the orientations of the General Chapter held in Auteuil from June 29 to July 28, 2024. In a special way, our three Sisters, as well as the lay delegate to the Chapter, had the opportunity to share the experience they themselves underwent at that moment.

We had the opportunity to work on the Chapter documents and to contextualize them while seeking, in a synodal approach, how the calls could be lived out in our Communities and mission places. Thanks to the group work and the workshops that structured our time together, everyone had the opportunity to express themselves, share their reflections, and define the direction they perceive as a personal, Community, and Provincial call for the next six years (pending the Provincial Chapter scheduled for December). Reading our reality made us aware that the Spirit is impelling us to move forward and inviting us to leave our comfort zones to open ourselves to the change required by the prophetic mission to which we are called.

Each of the Sisters expressed their joy in being part of the Congregation and contributing to the life of this family we form, specifically emphasizing the care for one another and for the Congregation.

The younger Sisters expressed their desire to channel their youthful energy for the Kingdom and the life of our Congregation: "We expect from you, dear elder Sisters, that you trust us and provide us with solid formation for a more effective mission."

The middle-aged Sisters declared: "During our meeting, we recognized our need for further formation, to nourish ourselves with light in order to pass it on. We aspire to live our consecration authentically to support the younger Sisters. Dear elder Sisters, we will do everything we can to support you in your moments of weakness and ensure your well-being."

The eldest Sisters expressed their joy at seeing new generations join the Congregation and embrace the evolution of the present time. They are determined to carefully preserve the treasure of the Assumption Family and to pass it on through their life consecrated to Christ.

We concluded our gathering with the Eucharist during which, as Assumption Together, we solemnly received the final document of the General Chapter. We give thanks to God, who, through His Spirit, continues to guide our steps in fulfilling His will for our Congregation.
