A Synodal Experience

A eventWednesday, 03 July 2024

On Saturday, May 18, we went through a beautiful synodal experience within the framework of the celebration of Pentecost, a significant date for ecclesial movements.

In an atmosphere full of expectation and hope, the team that worked on the lay survey since October of last year, met with Sister Rekha, Superior General, her Council, the Provincial/Regional Superiors and those in charge of Assumption Together from each of our Provinces/Region, as well as with the lay delegates who will participate in the forthcoming General Chapter this year.

After a few words of welcome from Sister Marthe, Councilor in charge of Assumption Together, María and Inez, members of the CPAE (Permanent Commission of Assumption Together), led the prayer of invocation to the Holy Spirit, after which, Sister Rekha, Superior General, invited each participant to introduce her/himself. It was a moving moment, an authentic celebration of communion, a new Pentecost to which the Holy Spirit summoned us, lay and Sisters in Assumption Together. Like the first disciples, we feel called to listen, dialogue and find together paths of metanoia, prophetic mission and a culture of care.

The presentation of the document with the results and analysis of the survey, the central axis of the meeting, reflected the voice of the lay among us: their concerns, dreams and proposals for the future of our community. Each piece of information and each testimony was received with deep respect and attention, showing a real commitment to co-responsibility and the active participation of everyone. We thank all those who responded to the survey, those who collaborated in the task of translation, data analysis and writing the document, as well as those who will be in charge of disseminating it and motivating each group to delve deeply into this task. All of this is part of the synodal work of preparation for the General Chapter that will take place in July of this year. We hope that the reading and analysis of the document will lead us to a real spiritual renewal, knowing that the Holy Spirit continues acting among us, guiding us and strengthening our unity.

What was experienced in this meeting and throughout the process of carrying out the survey has been an experience of a community that is alive, willing to walk together towards new horizons. This has made us take a significant step towards greater integration and collaboration between all members of our community. As some of the participants shared, our hearts are filled with hope and with the conviction that, united by the Holy Spirit Who kindled the Charism in Saint Marie Eugenie and Who inspires each one of us, we can face new challenges and, as Assumption, continue to build the Kingdom together.
