“Designing new maps of hope”: a letter to dream about the education of the future

eventWednesday, 29 October 2025

Pope Leo XIV has published the Apostolic Letter ‘Drawing New Maps of Hope’ on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Conciliar Declaration "Gravissimum educationis" — a luminous and deeply inspiring text that invites the entire educational community — educators, families, consecrated persons, young people and formators — to rethink the art of educating in the 21st century.

With a prophetic and hope-filled tone, the Pope calls us to trace new paths where education becomes an act of communion, a search for meaning, and a care for human dignity. It is not merely about changing structures, but about rekindling the passion to educate as an act of love: opening horizons, accompanying processes, and recognizing God’s presence in each person.

Drawing inspiration from great saints and educators — De La Salle, Don Bosco, Champagnat, Cabrini, Bakhita… — the letter becomes a call to rediscover the educational vocation as an ecclesial mission and to weave networks of hope and fraternity in a fragmented world.

“To educate,” the Pope reminds us, “is to draw new maps of the human heart, letting the Gospel illuminate the paths of freedom and fraternity.”

A text to be read with an open heart, especially in this Jubilee Year of the educational world, inviting us to renew the joy of accompanying others and allowing ourselves to be transformed along the way of encounter.
