June 2 – World Communications Day: Artificial Intelligence and Hope

J eventWednesday, 16 July 2025

Did you know that Pope Francis’s final complete message on communication focused on artificial intelligence and hope?

Written shortly before his passing, its message now carries even greater weight.

For the 58th World Day of Social Communications, the Pope signed a message entitled “Share with gentleness the hope that is in your hearts" In it, he invited us to rethink how we use technology—especially artificial intelligence—in the ways we communicate.

Francis did not reject AI, but he warned against the danger of dehumanized communication when the heart is forgotten. For him, technology was meant to serve the common good, never to replace human experience. He believed that good communication is an act of discernment, where the goal is not only to inform, but also to form, to heal, and to unite.

This year, his message holds particular relevance in the context of the war in the Holy Land. The Holy See has emphasized the importance of stories that not only reflect horror, but also give voice to those who silently build peace. The witness of journalists working in the midst of conflict—risking their lives for the truth—embodies the kind of communication the Pope envisioned: courageous, human, and healing.

In a world flooded with noise and data, how do we choose what to say, and how to say it? Do we communicate to build, or merely to impress?
