The Higher Institute of Pedagogy of Antananarivo is a Catholic institution that belongs to various women's religious congregations in Madagascar. Our institute aims to improve the quality of the educational system in Madagascar by training future teachers in all areas related to the sciences of education.
In this context, the institute offers second-year students a field study through a study trip. This enables students to experience in reality the theoretical courses that we have studied during our first and second years and prepares us for future study trips that we will organize once we are working in our own schools.
This year, our FLAMBOYANT class carried out this study trip from 1 to 10 May 2026 along the route from Antananarivo to Morondava, where we studied the geological map of Madagascar, with its crystalline basement marked by volcanism and its sedimentary formations resulting from marine regressions and transgressions that took place billions and billions of years ago in the northwestern part of the country. We also studied its history, geography, and ecology, from the highlands to the sea.
This was also an opportunity for us to encounter another reality of the lives of teachers and students, since for two days we observed classes and conducted surveys concerning their study life (students) and their working life (teachers).
With our holy Mother Marie Eugénie of Jesus, we can say:
“Educating the intelligence in the light of faith means transforming society by transforming the mentality of young people. But this presupposes teachers who are capable of adapting to the personality of each student and of guiding them with competence and dedication.”
