The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus brings to our hearts the living memory of one of the greatest gifts God has given us: the offering of Jesus, who died to save us.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a deeply rooted devotion in Catholic tradition. This symbol reflects the boundless love of Christ for all humanity and his total self-giving.
It is common to find prominently displayed images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus alongside the Immaculate Heart of Mary in many homes, a visual expression of their deep connection. These images embody purity, maternal tenderness, and a reverent, fervent kind of love.
The heart itself is a human way to represent emotion, the pulse of life, and the importance of the organ that best expresses our deepest feelings.
Saint Marie Eugenie speaks of “the unknown land that is our soul, where each person must be engaged to move forward. To speak often, almost exclusively, of faith, hope and charity.”
This symbolism resonates especially among the most humble and vulnerable, where physical needs often seem to outweigh those of the soul.
As Christians in the Assumption family, we are called to nourish our devotion to the living and active Heart of Jesus, who gave his life for the salvation of humanity. With this, we renew our mission to evangelize according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Good Shepherd has a wide, generous heart and leads his flock along the “safe path”, caring constantly for each one. So too must our love be.
