A Tribute to Our Beloved Pope Francis - 21 April 2025 (1936-2025)

A eventWednesday, 21 May 2025

Very dear Sisters and friends,

Blessings of Easter Octave!

As we mourn Pope Francis's passing, we also give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of his life to the Church and the Global Community.

We remember him as a shepherd who led with Father’s love, Jesus’ humility, and the fire of the Holy Spirit with a deep commitment to the Gospel of Mercy. We experienced him as a prophetic shepherd of the poor and marginalised who cared for all, especially for the small voices and invisible members of the Church. We thank him for his efforts in talking about God and God’s creation differently, initiating the process of synodality in the Church, dreaming of a more inclusive Church, and making the Church more engaged with the complex realities of the world. In challenging times of scandals and polarisations, Pope Francis invited us to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and discern things with justice and mercy.

May he bless us all and continue his reform of the Church from above! May his compassionate and loving presence and legacy of breaking down barriers endure through our lives! May he live in our hearts forever! May his soul rest in eternal peace!

Let us honour his life and vision for the Church by making his Legacy come alive through our lives and commitments. In conformity with Saint Marie Eugenie’s special love for the Church, may we make the following two proposals for all our communities.

1. Take a time of prayer and reflection together, focusing on the impact of Pope Francis's legacy – his life witness and teachings – on our personal and communal lives. Share your experiences in your respective communities (Sisters and Laity – Assumption Together, wherever possible).

2. Pray for the Church, the forthcoming Conclave, the time of discernment, and Pope Francis's successor. Make special intentions during each community's adoration, Offices, or the Eucharist.

You will be united with me when I participate in Pope Francis's funeral with our sisters in Rome on 26 April. I consider it a special grace to be there in person to bid farewell to him in the name of the Congregation (like a drop in the ocean). I will return to Paris after the UISG meeting on 12 May.

With all our affection and prayers,

Sister Rekha and the Council
