East Africa Province: “It is in our hands, save it!!”

E eventWednesday, 06 May 2026

We, human beings play a role in protecting and destroying our environment and common home. We depend on air, water and land our survival. Therefore, having a clean and safe environment is in the hands of each one of us. To protect the environment, we need to plant trees, reduce plastic use, keep our surroundings clean, teach our students how to save water and respect our natural world.

In almost all our surroundings, the serious environmental problems are air pollution from factories and vehicles, deforestation caused by cutting down trees for building purposes and mismanagement of wastes like leaving garbage in the streets, mixing electronic wastes with general waste, illegal dumping of construction debris and blocked drainage systems due to floods.

As we are aware, the environment is all that surrounds us air, land, plants, animals and water. Unfortunately, carelessness, selfishness, business and sometimes ignorance, damage our surroundings. Cutting of trees for domestic use and construction, air pollution, deforestation and open dumping are some of the ways that harm animals, plants and human beings as well. To protect the environment, our common home, an action has to be taken.

As the Religious of the Assumption, we recognize that loving our time today, invites and requires us to care for our creation and commitment in building “our common”.

The arrival and presence of the Religious of the Assumption Sisters at Boujou Pre & Primary School has brought a new face in raising the students’ awareness on environmental education and practice, through the creation of the School Environmental Club. The students are witnesses of the garbage in the streets,, dumping of construction debris and blocked drainage especially during the rainy season.

The students value the school environment as they are now aware that they have their part to play and are responsible for a healthy environment for our common home. They know that everyone, young and old have to take care and protect our environment from any damage or destruction. The environmental sessions and cleanliness have motivated and awakened the students’ duty and responsibility to conserve and protect the school environment.

The cleanliness and beauty of our school compound has increased the awareness of the importance of protecting our environment and inspires better daily habits of our students. They are very happy to see how beautiful their school compound is just because they take good care of the environment. They have a slogan, “Good Environment, Good Health”.

They are faithful in sweeping and cleaning their classes to avoid respiratory diseases. From their Science teacher, they have learnt that pollution harms air, water and the soil. They know and appreciate that trees clean the air and gives us oxygen. As young ones, this makes them spontaneous in keeping their classes and school compound clean. Majority of them have extended this education to their families and are role models to their friends in keeping the environment clean and attractive.

Protecting our common home is everyone’s duty! Every small step you take can help and protect our environment. Prepare for it today!!!!!
