In a world that moves so fast, where technology, social media, and daily activities take up all our time and attention, pausing to reflect on God’s love can feel far away or even impossible. But what if Pope Francis invites us to experience that love in a personal, heart-to-heart way? His encyclical Dilexit Nos (“He loved us”) opens the door for us to understand the divine and human love that flows from the Heart of Jesus. This encyclical is a heartfelt and direct invitation to look beyond the algorithms that show us how "our thoughts and our decisions are much more 'standard' than we thought. They’re easily predictable and manipulable.” The “reasons of the heart,” though, are deeper and more complex—they’re what make us human.
A core message here is that “nothing can separate us from the love of Christ” (Romans 8:39). This encyclical isn’t just a text; it invites us to feel this love that surrounds us and gives meaning to our daily lives.
The heart is a symbol of love in many cultures. "Throughout history, across different cultures, the heart has become a symbol of the most personal intimacy, of affection, emotions, and the capacity to love. Beyond any scientific explanation, a hand on a friend’s heart shows a special affection; when someone is in love and close to that person, the heart beats faster; and when someone experiences betrayal or loss, they feel a deep ache in the heart. And when we want to show that something is real and genuine, we say: ‘I say this from my heart.’”
Pope Francis speaks to us from the heart, reminding us that in moments of loneliness or when we feel misunderstood, remembering that the Heart of Jesus beats with love for each of us can fill those empty spaces with hope. He invites us to rediscover that our actions, when guided by love, can also change the lives of others.
Jesus is a friend, someone close to us who asks for nothing in return for his love. This is a call to come to Him with confidence, to find in His Heart a shelter, a guide, and a source of peace. Jesus is not a distant figure but someone who wants to walk with us, to help us face our problems, and give us strength to build something new and good. To know His Heart is to open the door to a deeper and more genuine relationship with Him.
This love we experience leads us to feel as Jesus does: more patient, generous, and compassionate. In a world that often promotes individualism, Jesus invites us to live with a heart open to others, a heart that helps, comforts, and celebrates the good in others. Love has the power to change the world, to create a true community, and to guide us to live with a spirit of care for each other.
Don’t miss out on reading, reflecting, and praying with this beautiful message—and, with the help of the love it inspires, living it out.
