Province of Central America and Cuba: The Joy of Self-Giving

P eventFriday, 24 April 2026

In a world that moves at a dizzying pace, where the driving force of life seems to be emotions and stories that last twenty-four hours and invite us to enjoy only the present moment—without seeming to care about the future—pausing to ask where to direct one’s life appears countercultural. For this reason, we give thanks for the vocation of our novice sisters Sheili Lorenzo and Mayela Montoya, who on Sunday, January 25, began the novitiate stage in the Province of Central America and Cuba.

The celebration was marked by simplicity and by the deep desire of Sheili and Mayela to continue deepening their following of Jesus within the family of the Religious of the Assumption. The phrase they chose to begin this stage was: “With you I am, come and follow me,” expressing their certainty that they do not walk alone, but are accompanied by the One who has called and loved them even before they were born.

The sisters who serve in Nicaragua accompanied the novices at this important moment and, as a community, prayed that the Holy Spirit may guide and strengthen them during this time in which each one prepares her clay for a more radical self-giving to Jesus in the consecrated life.

Jesus continues to call. He calls those whom He wills and those who pause to listen to His call with the trust that, as Saint Marie Eugénie says, it is God who leads everything. Let us continue praying for vocations and for the perseverance, joy, and fidelity of every consecrated woman.
