The dates from August 11 to 14, 2024, were of great significance for our Rwanda-Chad Province. We had the joy of coming together as sisters of the Province, along with some lay people who participated part-time, to reflect on the life of our province—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—in light of the directives from the General Chapter held in Auteuil from June 29 to July 28, 2024. In particular, our three sisters and the lay delegate who attended the Chapter had the opportunity to share with us the experiences they themselves lived during this period.
We had the chance to work on the Chapter's documents and contextualize them while seeking, through a synodal approach, how the calls we felt could be lived out in our communities and places of mission. Through group work and workshops that structured our time together, everyone had the opportunity to express themselves, share their thoughts, and define the direction they perceive as a personal, community, and Provincial call for the next six years (while awaiting the Provincial Chapter scheduled for December). Reflecting on our reality made us realize that the Spirit is urging us to move forward and invites us to leave our comfort zones to embrace the change demanded by the prophetic mission to which we are called.
Each sister expressed her joy in being part of the Congregation and contributing to the life of this family we form, particularly by emphasizing the care we should have for one another and for the Congregation.
The younger sisters expressed their desire to channel their vibrant energies towards the Kingdom and the life of our Congregation: “We expect you, dear elders, to trust us and provide us with solid formation for a more effective mission.”
The middle-aged sisters said: “During our meeting, we realized our need to continue our formation and to nourish ourselves with the light so that we can share it. We aspire to live our consecration authentically to support the younger ones. Dear elder sisters, we will do everything to support you in your moments of weakness and ensure your well-being.”
The older sisters expressed their joy at seeing new generations joining the congregation and welcoming the changes of the present times. They are determined to carefully preserve the treasure of the Assumption family and to pass it on through their lives consecrated to Christ.
We concluded our gathering with a Mass celebration, during which, as Assumption Together, we solemnly received the final document of the General Chapter. We give thanks to God, who, through His Spirit, continues to guide our steps towards fulfilling His will for our Congregation.
