On Good Friday, the initiative Faithful Philly, together with a consortium of parishes, organizations, and local institutions, carried out the traditional Stations of the Cross in Philadelphia through the streets of the city center (United States). The celebration gathered numerous participants who walked together in prayer, placing at its heart justice, respect for human dignity, and the reality faced by migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
The procession, held in the heart of the city, offered a space for communal reflection in which each station became an opportunity to contemplate human suffering in light of today’s realities of forced migration. Through readings, prayers, and moments of silence, participants expressed solidarity with those compelled to leave their homes in search of safety, opportunities, and a dignified life.
The initiative sought to recall that Christ’s Passion continues to be reflected today in situations of vulnerability and exclusion experienced by millions of people worldwide. From this perspective, the Stations of the Cross became a public expression of faith and social commitment, inviting the community to recognize the face of Christ in those experiencing displacement, uncertainty, and difficult reception.
The Religious of the Assumption in the United States, present and actively engaged in the social and ecclesial reality of their communities, joined spiritually in this initiative, which reflects the Assumptionist charism: contemplating the world through the eyes of faith and working actively for social transformation inspired by the Gospel. The defense of human dignity, especially for the most vulnerable, is an essential part of their educational and pastoral mission.
Through this event, Faithful Philly and the participating entities reaffirmed their commitment to building more welcoming and just communities, especially toward migrants and refugees. The day concluded with a shared prayer for peace, hospitality, and hope—values deeply connected to the Christian message and the profound meaning of Good Friday.
