East Africa Province: “Where there is a woman, there is peace and prosperity”

E eventTuesday, 24 June 2025

Our world is made up of so many incredible, and so many amazing changes that  are being made y woman who have recognized their importance, worth, contribution and role  agents in the society they live in. Today, women are increasingly getting empowered to decide the course of the own life and profession and realize their fullest potentials, though not every country considers and exercises the rights of women.

The International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on 8th March, is a time to celebrate the progress, blessings, raising awareness of the ongoing challenges, putting dreams into actions and standing up for what one believes in. It’s a time to celebrate a woman’s achievement.

Saint Marie Eugenie of Jesus, the Foundress of the Religious of the Assumption and the Patron of our School (St. Marie Eugenie Milleret Secondary School), was a woman of faith, love, development and action. We are blessed and privileged to be in a school run by the Assumption Sisters who have carried on the spirit of St. Marie Eugenie of educating a girl child. The education of not only getting distinction grades, but the type of education that allows he good that is in every person to break through the rock which imprisons them and to lead it into the light where it can flower and shine forth.

We celebrated two important events on 8th March 2025; the International Women’s Day and the Feast of St. Marie Eugenie which is celebrated annually on 10th of March. We are very grateful to the Sisters because we are given opportunities and tools that we need to build a better and brighter future for ourselves, our respective communities and the society at large. We are now assured that a good woman is not destination but a process of being and that a good woman is not defined by her achievements but by the way she approaches life. This process of building up solid principle has been a gradual process because of the many misconceptions we had about life; for example, life is fair after school and good grades- good life.

Yes, we have allowed ourselves to be formed and now we are courageous, open, devoted, active, capable, cooperative, confident, responsible, organized, fearless, strong and we maintain teamwork spirit among ourselves and the teaching staff. This is because we now know that we have to put our dreams into action by standing up for what we believe in.

This was manifested when we showed our different talents in poems, music and debate, all in praise of women. A memorable day because it affirmed us that women are part of our beautiful world and therefore the right time to acknowledge our existence.

The saying that when you educate a woman a woman, you educate a nation, is very true. We salute the Sisters who are a great inspiration to our dreams, they are strong women full of conviction and supportive. They have a unique way of supporting us to go forward when we doubt our own abilities.

We conclude by inviting you to this: “Have you ever imagined a world without a woman or women?”

Stand up and give a woman the chance to live her life!!
