In Auteuil, in July 2018, the Provincials of Mexico-Ecuador and South Atlantic, driven by the desire to build a common project at the regional level, began to dream of an Education NETWORK. This dream materialized in 2019 during the Intercouncil meetings in Brasília, inspired by a long Latin American tradition of shared work and projects, as well as by the guidelines of the 2018 Education Meeting in Manila, where the agreement to “create networks and share resources on transformative education” was clearly established. The General Chapter emphasized: “the renewal and coordination of digital platforms and social networks” as key instruments for building networks. The conditions were in place to take the first steps.
In 2019, NETWORK teams were established in Querétaro, Águilas, Guayaquil, and São Paulo. A competition was held to design the Network’s logo, which led to the selection of both the logo and the motto: “As a family we live, and as a community we share.” Our logo reminds us that networks are woven through the effort and commitment of their members, all sailing together in the same boat of the Church, guided by the light of the Gospel.
Numerous initiatives for mutual knowledge and exchange were launched during this stage and were consolidated throughout the pandemic. It soon became necessary to establish a core team for the Network, with one representative from each country. Familiarity and collaboration between religious sisters and lay people grew stronger.
At present, thanks to the growth of the NETWORK through numerous virtual meetings and shared projects, the core team includes representatives from Querétaro, Milleret, and Águilas (Mexico); Guayaquil (Ecuador); São Paulo (Brazil); El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua (Central America and Cuba). Coordination is currently carried out by the Ecuador-Mexico Province.
Since the 2020-2021 academic cycle, approximately 30 virtual meetings have been held each year. The variety and richness of these encounters are immense. All the sister schools represented in the core team have participated, and the NETWORK has also reached an intercontinental scope with schools from Spain, the Philippines, France, and Madagascar joining in. Our schools in Mexico, Ecuador, and Lyon (with Bordeaux joining this academic year) have experienced the Intercultural Exchange (in person), further enriching their identity as part of the Assumption family. We continue to dream of new forms of exchange and participation.
The feedback received from several members of our NETWORK community has been very positive. Each meeting confirms the certainty of belonging to the Assumption on a broader scale, beyond our own individual schools. Projects have been shared, and pedagogical practices have been highlighted.
As a gesture of thanksgiving, the meetings of each academic cycle (Mexican calendar) have been compiled in a video to reflect the diversity, synodality, and joy of our encounters.
